Asma Menon, Gita Hudson and Thejomaye Menon a trio of established artists based in Chennai, each with their distinctive style, have created a visual language that is an alchemy of thought. The collection of works on display appears to blend as in a mosaic, their diversity of form, colour and texture, to create an amalgamation of their thought process. The display of art works attempts to interest the viewer with metaphors to create stories with emotive association that focus on ideas of each artist. Asma Menon delves into the occult inspired by her surroundings with interesting and definitive lines that speak her narrative. Gita Hudson has expressed her thoughts by abstract paintings, decoding landscapes in earth tones. Thejomaye Menon journeys into a thought-provoking, Philosophical realm with a dialogue of contrasts in vibrant colours that blend with monochromatic palette. Contemporary in character, with their choice of traditional folk art or in Abstraction, the artists have once again, come together, this time in Bengaluru at the MKF Museum of Art, a vibrant and a popular space for art. Art will never be able to exist without Nature. - Pierre Bonnard Sultana Hasan’s pictorial vocabulary emanates with energy and vitality, to present a unique charm that immerses into Nature, an oft-inspired subject for an artist. Ensconced in the natural environment during walks in gardens, or in the countryside, she is inspired by forms found in fallen autumn leaves and of flowering trees in Spring, to re-create her observations in a prism of colours, that is Rooted in Nature. As a Contemporary artist, the collection of works express accents on Nature and are her innate focus to preserve the eco-system. Influenced by her years in Paris, the epi-centre of art and artists, Sultana Hasan’s new series of works, has an approach of Impressionism, that is seen in Still Life, that is reminiscent of French artist Edouard Manet, in his renditions, on the subject. Forms in her compositions, lean towards an element of Abstraction that ignite one’s curiosity, evident in layers of mixed-media in a mosaic of collage and the use of pigments, to resonate in a felicity of colours. There is a tonal quality in her textural play that is riveting in every composition. Sultana Hasan’s creations are a celebration of Earth’s bountiful array offered to mankind, and the essence is an elixir to breathe in and to absorb. Shirley Mathew MKF Museum of Art Nature has been a rich source of inspiration for me in my art. Attracted by the natural and vibrant palette of colours and patterns that I experience, I have endeavoured to portray the harmony and beauty that they evoke in me. Despite their fragility and ephemeral quality, they bring a sense of well-being and “joie de vivre” which uplifts the spirits in those brief moments and yet expresses the passage of time. I think of human nature as an intrinsic part of a whole ecosystem, linked to the natural world. There seem to be patterns in everything that come together organically and harmoniously. Humans, animals, and elements that coexist on Earth are for me, an integral part of the cosmos, to value and care for — one that recognises the innate nurturing instinct and seeks to live harmoniously, fostering peace and unity within the universe. Man’s greed has led to constant wars, devastation and depletion of our resources. This makes one even more aware of what is necessary to hold on to, share and preserve for our very survival. Human beings must stop running towards an artificial and nihilistic end and go with the flow of nature, rather than battle quixotically against our ecosystems. It is the only way to save human life, the natural world, our inner spiritual life and our humanity. Sultana Hasan Sultana Hasan <!-- --> SULTANA HASAN was born in Hyderabad (India). She studied in Paris (France) where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design at Ecole Nationale Superieure de Metiers d’Arts in 1975. In 1978 she received a Master’s degree in Painting from the prestigious Ecole des Beaux Arts, Paris. Sultana studied printmaking at the John Cass College of Art, London (U.K.) and at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (U.S.A.). She worked as an illustrator in advertising companies in Paris as well as in publishing firms in both Paris and India. In 1975, she was awarded the “Prix Glaciers de France”, Paris and in 1987, she was honoured with the National prize at the Art Competition of the Chitrakala Parishath, Bangalore. From 1975 to 2025, Sultana Hasan has held over 13 Solo exhibitions in prestigious galleries across India. Her participation in 63 group shows, has created a presence across international venues that include Paris, London, U.S.A., U.K. and Germany. She has explored different techniques and experimented with mediums on various surfaces. Her works have portrayed the human form in her series of nudes, market vendors, landscapes and construction sites, often focusing on women workers. Lately, Sultana Hasan has been exploring Nature’s survival in its conflict with man. Her artworks are included in both private and public collections in India and abroad.
